I heard about TARGET for the first time in 2012 when I attended a speech of Rüdiger Nehberg. I was deeply impressed that someone was able to do something against the female genital mutilation and I was even more impressed to see that this is a western person, a German – simply incredible!
How was he able to reach that? Against the common trend he did non condemn the islamic belief and point his finger out to how cruel these rituals are. No, he went into the topic, studied the Koran and found out that the female genital mutilation is completely incompatible with the Koran and the ethics of the islamic belief. Already in the very beginning he saw the biggest chance to realise his vision in the power of the islam. So he searched for a close and honest cooperation. That’s why the muslims trust him and they also trust TARGET because the members of TARGET are coming as friends, with a lot of respect and without any missionary or western thoughts.
With the Golden Book TARGET is spreading the message all over the african continent and by doing this it was possible to safe many young women from this cruel act and lifelong suffering. Besides this TARGET is also helping mutilated women with the new built Danakil Desert Childbirth Clinic.
But TARGET has also completely other projects like the support of the Waiapi-indians in the brasilian rain forest. This project was where Rüdiger Nehberg‘s, his family‘s and his team‘s story in the field of human rights began, many years ago.
When I listened to the speech years ago, it was immediately clear to me that we have to support this organisation. That’s why we donate every year a certain amount to this incredible worthwile work. We thank TARGET and the whole team and we wish them that their vision soon will be reality.
